The Grand National is arguably the most famous National Hunt horse race in the UK. It takes place annually in April on the Aintree racecourse and is a handicap race run over four-and-a-half miles with 30 fences.
It is the richest race in the UK National Hunt calendar and is the most heavily backed race under both codes of UK horse racing. The Grand National holds a unique position in the tradition of racing and betting, the event has such a hold on the British public that many people who will never normally bet on horse racing will have a bet on the Grand National once a year.

3. There may be conditions applied to allow your first bet to qualify to receive a free bet. Check the terms of the free bet offer to see if your first bet has any qualifying restrictions eg, odds, type of bet, type of event.
HOW TO USE YOUR FREE GRAND NATIONAL BETS
Once you’ve placed your qualifying bet, a free bet credit will appear in your account, usually within 48 hours of making your first deposit or placing your first qualifying bet.
In most instances, you just make your selection and select the option on your bet slip to use the free bet. Each bookmaker will explain more clearly how to use the free bet.
There will be some restrictions applied to the use of your free bet:
1. The free bet stake will not be included in returns
2. Expect minimum odds to be applied to the free bet, typically from 1/5 (1.2) to Evens (2.0)
3. Some bet types may be excluded, but singles and accumulators will be fine.
4. You won’t be allowed to use the free bets in Tote pools, but they can be used on most markets on the sportsbooks
5. Look out for rollover restrictions. If your free bet wins, you may be required to bet the stake a number of times before being able to make a withdrawal.
6. Check the valid time for the free bets, this can vary from 7 to 30 days before the free bet expires.
GRAND NATIONAL BETTING TIPS
To use your free bet for the Grand National, you’ll need to register and place a qualifying bet one or two days before the race. This might be a good idea in any event, as some bookmakers have been known to withdraw their free bet offers for customers who register on Grand National day, as it is felt this is a day when people don’t need an incentive to open AN account such is the popularity of Grand National betting.
Register a few days before the day of the Grand National and it will be possible to bet on the Grand National ante-post market, just make sure the bookmaker is betting non-runner, no bet when you place your bet. This ensures you don’t lose your stake if the horse does not run.
With around 40 runners, many people will be betting more than one horse in the Grand National. You are not obliged to place all your selections with one bookmaker, with more than one account, you can shop around for the best odds for your Grand National selections and of course you are likely to qualify for more free bets.
