Poulter Up To Five In World Rankings After Arizona Victory

Thirty four year old englishman Ian Poulter was celebrating last night after a 4 and 2 victory over fellow englishman Paul Casey in the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship. The first prize of $900 000 was very welcome but victory almost certainly guarantees Poulter a place in the Ryder Cup team for this year's renewal in October . Poulter has been steadily climbing the world rankings and this victory lifts him to fifth place in the rankings , one spot ahead of Casey . Amazingly Europe now have 8 of the world's top 13 players according to the rankings and there is of course enormus uncertainty about when Tiger Woods will return to competitive golf with some commentators suggesting he could miss the whole of the 2010 season . Poulter will be looking forward to this season's first major at Augusta where he finished in a tie for 20th in 2009 and 35th in 2008 . His best Master finish however was 2007 when he finished 13th . Poulter is very much a confidence player and on his day can compete with the very best . With this year's Master's looking wide open with the expected absence of Woods , the Europeans will really fancy their chances when the tournament gets underway on April 8th and Poulter could be top amongst them . Poulter is currently available at 40/1 with Betinternet for the Masters and he looks sure to be a lower price when the tournament gets underway if he is in anything like his current form
