Political Betting Intensifies as Polls Narrow

Tagged under: General Election

Following a frantic day of election action bookmakers have generally shortened the odds on the Conservatives gaining most seats . With the no overall majority scenario now looking increasingly likely and priced accordingly with the best price of 8/13 likely to come under pressure soon , punters are having to look elsewhere for a decent return on their election bet . The odds on the Conservatives gaining most seats at 1/6 is too short for most customers and the 5/1 available for Labour to win most seats with Sportingbet and Bet365 may attract more interest . The Conservative leader David Cameron seems to be suffering from over exposure on TV and seems increasingly desperate as the campaign goes on . Whilst the Liberal Democrats are having a fantastic campaign the first past the post voting system means it would take a further huge shift in public opinion for them to get close to winning the most seats and at this stage of the election that now seems very unlikely. However the Labour Party seem to be performing rather better than many predicted at the start of the campaign and tonights YouGov opinion poll puts them only 5% behind the Conservatives . A strong performance from Gordon Brown in Thursday"s live debate on his specialist subject , the economy , could yet boost Labour and give this contest an exciting final week .
