Goodwood's totesport Mile Can Go To Improving 3 Year-old At Odds Of 14/1
Tagged under: Glorious Goodwood
Friday's Glorious Goodwood card features something for everyone, with several ultra-competitive handicaps, as well as three Group contests. Racing gets underway at 2.10 pm with the Group 3 Coutts Glorious Stakes in which John Gosden's Duncan will be all the rage after his fine effort behind King George VI winner Harbinger in Royal Ascot's Hardwicke Stakes. Well clear of the third home on that occasion Duncan only needs to reproduce that performance to reward favourite backers, with William Hill first to quote odds of 15/8. The Rolf Group Stewards' Sprint is for horses that failed to make the cut in Saturday's Steward's Cup, and the 28 runner cavalry charge can go to the enigmatic Pastoral Player at odds of 14/1. The Hughie Morrison 3 year-old has stacks of ability but also a deal of temperament. The gelding ran a remarkable race at York behind Victoire de Lyphar, after being left at the start Pastoral Player ran on to such effect that he was beaten just over two length by the winner, and enjoys a 6lb pull tomorrow. Feature handicap of the day is the totesport Mile, and in the wide open affair the three year-old runners look to have strong claims. Royston Ffrench's mount Sea Lord looks a strong favourite, with Paddy Power, who offer a free £100 bet to new customers, offering the best current odds of 6/1. Oasis Dancer, unplaced behind Canford Cliffs in the Irish 2000 Guineas, is also available at those odds but the value could lie with another 3 year-old in the shape of Ransom Note. Barry Hill's charge is a general 14/1 shot, and the winner of Royal Ascot's Britannia Stakes is just the type for this tough handicap. In a race where there is certain to be several hard luck stories Michael Hill's mount is very uncomplicated and from stall 5 is likely to challenge late on the outside, and if handling the Goodwood track is sure to run a big race.
