2010 European Darts Championship: Phil Taylor and van Barneveld On Course For Showdown
Tagged under: Sports
Online bookmakers are offering free bets for the second round of the European Darts Championships in Dinslaken, Germany today.
Tournament favourites Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld came through their first round matches to stay on course for another final showdown on Sunday night.
Barney had to survive a final leg thriller last night to beat Andy Hamilton 6-5 while Taylor powered past Co Stompe 6-2 on Thursday night.
Blue Square are offering odds of 1/3 Taylor and 6/1 van Barneveld to win the championship this weekend.
The tournament threw a couple of first round surprises with the loss of two seeds, James Wade and Adrian Lewis yesterday.
World number three Wade lost 4-6 to Colin Lloyd to continue the below par performances he put up in the World Matchplay last week.
Seventh seed Lewis went down 3-6 to Wayne Jones who could give himself a shot at the quarter-finals if beating Robert Thornton as expected this afternoon.
Simon Whitlock impressed again when qualifying with a 6-3 defeat of Dennis Priestly and is hoping to magic his first major tournament win.
The Wizard of Oz threw 15 ton pluses and 5 maximum 180s to set up a second round match against Terry Jenkins.
Boylesports offer odds of 11/1 for Whitlock to be 2010 European Champion.
