ATP Tour Tennis: Andy Murray eyes US Open after beating Federer

Tagged under: Tennis

Online bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers for Andy Murray to win the US Open Tennis championship in Flushing Meadows starting on 30 August. Bookies have shortened the odds of the 23-year-old Brit in the US Open betting following his two set victory over Roger Federer in Toronto last night. In a rain interrupted final Murray beat the former world number one 7-5 7-5 to successfully defend his ATP Rogers Cup title. Bookmakers reacted to Murray’s return to top form by cutting his price from 9/2 and Bodog now stand alone with odds of 15/4. Murray goes to this week’s Cincinatti Masters high on confidence after beating David Nalbandian and world number one Rafael Nadal on the way to his final showdown with Roger Federer. Federer beat Murray earlier in the season when winning the final of the Australian Open but the Scot will take heart from this revenge in preparation for his favourite grand slam event in New York at the end of the month. Speaking after collecting his trophy, Murray said: “The US Open is the main goal but this is a good start. I played five days in a row from Wednesday - all the matches right in the heat of the day so it was good for me physically. "I'll try to keep it going in Cincinnati (at this week's Cincinnati Masters) but the most important thing is getting ready for the US Open." Murray is seeded number four in Cincinatti so receives a first round bye, he’ll play either Frenchman Jeremy Chardy or German qualifier Florian Mayer in the second round. Bookies are undecided on a clear favourite for Cincinatti, with Murray, Nadal and Federer all featuring as favoutite with one bookmaker or another, Murray can be bet at odds of 7/2 with Stan James to win a second consecutive Tennis Masters title.
