Championship League Darts: Phil Taylor takes on James Wade in opening Group One fixture

Online bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers for the 2010 Championship League Darts taking place across nine days at Crondon Park Golf Club from Tuesday 7 September. The £200,000 prize money event consists of eight groups contested in a round robin format with the final held on 14 October. The event will be streamed exclusively on the internet and bookmakers Bet365 will provide coverage of Tuesday’s Group One contests on their website. World number one Phil Taylor headlines the opening day when Group One features the top PDC ranked players at the end of the Stan James World Matchplay. The group is completed by James Wade, Mervyn King, Adrian Lewis, Simon Whitlock, Mark Walsh, Colin Lloyd and Robert Thornton. The opening match on Board One is between Taylor and James Wade at 10.30am while on Board Two, Colin Lloyd takes on Robert Thornton. Players outside of the top eight are invited into the tournament to contest the later groups made up of the three invited players and five players from the previous group. Group winners’ progress to the final Winners Group to be contested on 14 October and the bottom two are eliminated from the competition. On Wednesday Group 2 will be made up of three invites, Ronnie Baxter, Gary Anderson and Paul Nicholson who will be joined by the players filling 2nd to 6th places in Tuesday’s Group One. Phil Taylor is the obvious favourite to win the competition having won the inaugural event in 2008, 888 Sport have him at odds of 4/7. Last year’s event brought a surprise winner in Colin Osbourne, he is available at odds of 80/1 with Sporting Bet to retain his crown. He plays in Group Three on Thursday when he is joined by fellow invitations Andy Hamilton and Co Stompe.
