Premier League: Manchester United v Tottenham Preview and Team News

Tagged under: Premier League

Sir Alex Ferguson will look to continue Manchester United’s recent record against Tottenham when Harry Redknapp’s team travel up from North London. Online bookmakers are enticing new customers with free bets and cash back specials for the televised Premier League clash between Manchester United and Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday. United have not been beaten by Tottenham since 1989 having won 14 times in their last 18 meetings. While the arrival of Harry Redknapp two years ago has brought Tottenham to a new level, bookmakers believe Sir Alex’s record will be extended. William Hill are offering odds of 8/13 for United to win again while Redknapp’s much improved Tottenham side are available to bet at 5/1 with most bookmakers, including 888 Sport. Redknapp will not have overlooked the defensive frailties shown by United in letting winning positions slip away and will target their Achilles heel with an attacking approach. Tottenham are one of the leading contenders for a top four slot again this season and are currently two points behind United, Redknapp has admitted a fourth place finish is his highest priority so is unlikely to save players for the midweek Champions League clash with Inter Milan. Ferguson received news earlier this week that Wayne Rooney’s injury was worse than feared and the England striker is likely to be out of action for another three weeks. However, this coincides with the emergence of Mexican international Javier Hernandez who was signed in the summer as a future prospect. The 22-year-old hit the headlines last weekend when he scored both goals in a dramatic late 2-1 win at Stoke, then came off the bench to hit the decider in the Carling Cup tie against Wolves. Bookmaker Stan James is offering odds of 9/2 for the striker, nicknamed Chicarito, to keep up the momentum and open the scoring on Saturday. Redknapp singles out his last gasp summer signing Rafael van der Vaart as Spurs main dangerman, the Dutch playmaker not only keeps the side ticking but chips in with vital goals. He has scored four times already this term in six appearances and Ladbrokes odds of 3/1 for the Dutchman to score at anytime look quite generous.
