Big Bucks Wins World Hurdle For Third Time

Tagged under: Cheltenham Festival

Ruby Walsh rode his fourth winner of the 2011 Cheltenham Festival when guiding the Paul Nicholl's trained Big Bucks to a third consecutive World Hurdle triumph .
Big Bucks was always kept handy by Walsh during a slowly run race and was asked to take the lead on the long run in between the second and last fence . Big Bucks responded well to take a two length advantage and although pushed by Grand Crus , Big Bucks found more up the Cheltenham hill to win by a length and a half .
Big Buck's now joins the list of all time hudling greats such as Baracouda who also won the World Hurdle three times in succession between 2000 and 2002 .
After an Irish whitewash at Cheltenham yesterday the English trained horse's have staged a comeback on the third day of the Festival with Buena Vista and Albertas Run winning the previous races for David Pipe and Jonjo O'Neil respectively .
Big Bucks was the banker bet of the meeting for many punters and was the first favourite to win since the opening race yesterday .
All eyes will now turn to the Cheltenham Gold Cup tomorrow where the Nicholls/Walsh combination will try to win the race for a third time on Kauto Star . Beaten into second place in his warm up race , The King George at Kempton in December , Kauto Star is attempting to follow up his success's in 2007 and 2009 in the race .
Kauto Star will be hoping that the rain forecast for tomorrow holds off until after the race at 3.30pm as Kauto performs better on the current good ground .
