Liverpool rated 18/1 in late Champions League challenge

Liverpool’s demolition of Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday night has sparked suggestions that the Reds could mount a late challenge for fourth spot and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Maxi Rodriguez scored a hattrick in the 5-2 win with goals from Dirk Kuyt and man-of-the-match Luis Suarez making 13 goals in the last three games from the Merseysiders. Liverpool’s progress since Kenny Dalglish took charge in Januray has been nothing short of remarkable, leading the side languishing in the bottom half of the table to fifth place and an outside chance of Champions League qualification. Online bookmakers 888sport and Blue Sq are offering odds of 18/1 for Liverpool to end a roller coaster season by sneaking into the to top four.
For the Reds to stand any chance of a Champions League spot, they would need Manchester City to suffer a late collapse, starting on Tuesday against Tottenham. City are rated an even money chance, by Unibet, to beat Tottenham, which would be enough to secure fourth place with just two games remaining.
Harry Redknapps side then travel to Anfield on Sunday for a game that could determine which of the teams will feature in Europe next season.
Dalglish would not be drawn where Liverpol might finish the season: "I don't know. We'll just wait and see," he said. "I know it's boring and repetitive and we keep saying it, but it's not served us too badly over the years. The next one's the most important one, we'll play every game to win it and, at the end of it, we'll add up the points and see where we finish.
"Who would've predicted coming here and winning 5-2? I certainly wouldn't. Even if we don't get fifth, they've been absolutely fantastic. For us, the position hasn't been as important as the response of the players.”
