Midday favourite to win third Nassau Stakes

Midday is favourite to win the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood today and become the first triple winner of the prestigious Group 1 race for fillies and mares.

The five-year-old mare is owned by Khalid Abdullah and has won five times at the highest level so far in her career and returns to the scene of her first Group 1 success where she beat Rainbow View in this race as a three-year-old.

Henry Cecil’s charge was disappointing behind Misty For Me at the Curragh last time out, but with Aiden O’Briens filly an unlikely starter, the way is clear for Midday to book a place in Goodwood’s hall of fame and she is generally available at odds of 13/8 with leading bookmakers.

Her major rival in the remaining field of six runners set to contest the mile-and-a-quarter trip is Ed Dunlop’s Snow Fairy, the four-year-old enjoyed a successful short campaign in the far-east over the winter and returned after a six-month break to finish fourth I the Eclipse last month. Stan James was offering bets odds of 5/2 for Snow Fairy on the morning of the race.
