Sergio Garcia returned to action with a spectacular victory at his home-town course in Valencia when winning the Castello Masters by eleven strokes last weekend. It was Garcia’s first appearance since finishing 12th at the USPGA in August and he will make the trip to the south coast of Spain to lead the home challenge for the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama Golf Club which starts on Thursday 27th October 2011.
Spain will also be represented by 18-time European Tour winner Miguel Angel Jiminez who is available at odds of 60/1 with Paddy Power. Pablo Larrazabal is enjoying his best year on Tour, the 28-year-old won the BMW International Open in the summer and is set to break the €1million prize money barrier for the first time in his career. A top 40 finish in the Andalucia Masters will see him reach the target but Larrazabal is sure to have his eye on the €500,000 first prize for which he is 80/1 with William Hill. Big-hitting Alavaro Quiros is among the Spanish contingent and is looking to regain some form ahead of the World Championship in Dubai. After a strong start to the year with a win and second on the Middle East swing in February results have since tailed off. His 16th place finish at the Portugal Masters was his highest for five months hence the 55/1 odds to win the Andalucia Masters at Sky Bet. Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano had his best finish of the year when runner up to Garcia in Valencia and is 39/1 with Unibet to go one better and pick up his first win of the year.
Another player looking to rediscover the winning touch is Graeme McDowell who has been without a victory since winning the inaugural Andalucia Masters last year. 2011 has been a disappointment for the Northern Irishman who looked to set for great things after winning five European Tour titles and securing his first Major when crowned US Open Champion at Pebble Beach in 2010. McDowell will be buoyed by a positive show in his last apperarance in Europe when he finished with a share of third place at the Alfred Dunhill Links and Victor Chandler bets 20/1 for McDowell to hold on to his Andalucia Masters title for another year.
Fellow Major champion Martin Kaymer will be attempting to close the gap on Luke Donald in Race to Dubai. The German finished tenth in the Portugal Masters in his last European Tour event and is 12/1 at Unibet to gain success in Spain.
Justin Rose flies over from the United States to make his debut in the Andalucia Masters, the Englishman missed the cut at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic last week but will be in confident mood after winning the BMW Championship at Cog Hill last month on his way to finishing fifth in the FedExCup. Rose has fond memories of Valderrama where he clinched the 2007 European Tour Order of Merit by winning the end of season Volvo Masters and Victor Chandler bet 22/1 for Rose to be successful on his return.
