Chandler Rebrands As Bet Victor

Victor Chandler have long been one of the best known names in online betting but the Gibraltar based bookie has now taken the decision to rebrand the business as Bet Victor.

In 2006 Victor Chandler who chairs and owns a large chunk of the Company that bore his name was described in the Racing Post as "arguably the most famous bookmaker in the world." The history of the Victor Chandler brand can be traced back as far as 1925 when Victor’s grandfather, William, opened up Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium.

Victor himself took over the running of the business himself in 1975 and prior to being one of the first bookies to launch on the internet , the business was primarily involved in telephone betting , racecourse betting and betting shops. It was 1999 when Chandler rocked the UK betting industry when he took his telephone and internet betting business offshore to Gibraltar from where it was able to offer "tax free" betting. 

The decision to change the brand name is said to be to ensure brand consistency and instant recognition across all international markets. BetVictor is already successfully running across Europe, and will now be the banner under which the UK operation trades.

A statement from Victor Chandler International said that VC International "maintains a rich heritage in the UK from a small family business to one of the strongest independent sports and gaming companies in the world."

Meanwhile Victor himself has made a statement saying"The UK will continue to be the fulcrum of our international business and it makes perfect sense that the same brand name is used here as in foreign territories."

Whilst it is sad to see the end of such a famous and well respected bookmaking name it is a sign of the times that more and more online companies need to adopt a brand name that is SEO friendly .
