Birmingham Odds to Shock Chelsea in FA Cup

Championship promotion contenders Birmingham City are looking to shock Chelsea when they visit Stamford Bridge in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Online bookie Stan James bets 11/1 for Birmingham to knock out Chelsea at the first attempt and winger Chris Burke insists the Midlands side will be looking for victory in West London.

“It’s a great, great tie away in the FA Cup against a top Premier League side,’’ said Burke. “We’ll go there looking to get a victory as we always do and looking to play well and test ourselves against one of the best teams in Britain.

“The pressure is off and the onus is on Chelsea. They’re at home and in a bigger league and a top four side in the Premier League.”

Burke knows that Chelsea are struggling for form recently, the home side is trying to recover from what manager Andres Villas-Boas described at their worst performance of the season in the 2-0 defeat at Everton last weekend. The Chelsea boss finds himself under pressure with his team is in danger of failing to finish in the first four in the Premier League. Prior to the Everton debacle, Chelsea spurned a 3-0 lead against Manchester United and have a solitary win in the last five games, a narrow 1-0 FA Cup Fourth Round victory at QPR.

Birmingham are bidding to qualify for the FA Cup quarter finals for the third successive season and arrive undefeated in 13 games having displayed devastating form away from home. Chris Hughton’s team beat Millwall 6-0 on their last trip to London and a 4-1 win at Elland Road at the end of January resulted in Leeds manager Simon Grayson getting the sack. Birmingham have already taken one Premier League scalp in this season’s FA Cup, knocking out Wolves in a Third Round replay at Molineux.  City were drawn away from home against Sheffield Utd in the FA Cup Fourth Round and brushed aside the League One side in a comfortable 4-0 victory.

An FA Cup Fifth Round win for Birmingham would not be a huge shock to some UK bookmakers who bet as short as 15/2 for the away result and Stan James stand alone with odds of 11/1 for Birmingham to win.
