    Match Preview

Ghana play USA in Group G at Arena das Dunas in Natal and an opening game win may prove significant as one or both of the favourites to qualify from the group will have dropped points in the earlier Germany v Portugal fixture.

2010 World Cup quarter-finalists Ghana have made it past the group stage at the last two tournaments, but may find it hard to repeat that feat. The Black Stars have done well to make it to Brazil from a tough group in African qualification, but a lack of goals heading into the tournament is a worry. USA's form looks a little sketchy on paper, but the 1994 tournament hosts have been playing against higher calibre opponents in those matches and Jurgen Klinsmann's side are unlikely to go down without a fight in this encounter.

The sides have met at the last two World Cups with Ghana coming out on top on both occasions. Having won 2-1 in Germany and triumphed by the same scoreline after extra-time in South Africa they will carry confidence into this game, while the Stars and Stripes have something of a point to prove.

Ghana's leading goal-scorer Asamoah Gyan will be the focus of many goalscorer bets, but Sully Ali Muntari has netted 20 times for his country and is also worthy of consideration as he is likely to be on penalty duty. For USA Clint Dempsey has a knack of opening the scoring and is a probable spot-kick taker, so with those factors in mind he makes for a sensible bet in goalscorer markets, while Landon Donovan will be looking to increase his tally for the national side.
