In 1995, a 16-year-old Pirlo made his debut for Brescia and would soon attract the attention of Serie A side Internazionale. Finding it initially tough to break into the first team, Inter loaned Pirlo to Reggina for the 1999/2000 season and the midfielder instantly impressed at his new club.
He returned to Brescia in 2001 for another season, and found himself playing with famous names such as former World Cup star, Roberto Baggio, who Pirlo linked up with well as an attacking midfielder.
Pirlo was sold from Inter to fierce rivals AC Milan in June 2001, where he spent 10 years with the Italian giants. Pirlo was part of the side that took two Serie A titles in that period, as well as the UEFA Champions League in 2002/03 and 2006/07.
He ended his prolific chapter at Milan on 41 goals from 401 appearances, before sealing a move to Juventus in 2011 on a free transfer until 2014. Pirlo has since made 128 appearances with the club and scored 14 goals prior to the end of the 2013/14 season.
Pirlo captained Italy to an Under-21 European Championship in 2000, and has since scored 13 goals in 108 caps for the senior international side. Although injures limited his 2010 World Cup appearances, the Italian was a major part of his country's 2006 triumph. Pirlo appeared in 10 World Cup qualifying matches for this summer's tournament and scored one goal in that time against Armenia.
Andrea Pirlo World Cup betting tips
Although the Italian side have not exactly set the world alight in 2014, Pirlo has always received a mention because of his ability to change a game. He will be a best bet in individual goalscorer markets due to much longer odds than strikers such as Mario Balotelli, but his influence could make him a contender to be player of the tournament if Italy progress far in the 2014 World Cup.
