Ruiz will be one of Costa Rica's best betting tips to consider thanks to the longer betting odds of the former Fulham man compared to the strikers he will combine with in the tournament.
The 28-year-old began his professional career at 18 playing in Costa Rica's top division for Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, helping the side towards regional titles such as the UNCAF Cup and CONCACAF Champions' Cup in 2004-05 as he scored 21 goals in 66 appearances as an attacking playmaker.
Ruiz moved to K.A.A. Gent with a four-year contract, scoring a first hat-trick in a December 2007 contest against Lokeren. He became the team's captain and indeed top scorer, scoring a total of 26 times until a move to Dutch club FC Twente in 2009 for €5 million.
His debut was made a clinical one by grabbing the second goal of the match, soon enjoying 10 consecutive matches with a goal to his name before scoring one of the quickest hat-tricks of all time against Sparta Rotterdam, with goals in the 46th, 49th and 50th minutes.
Ruiz finished the season as top scorer for FC Twente with 24 goals in Eredivisie play for 2009/10 as they grabbed the title, scoring 35 goals in 65 showings before Premier League side Fulham brought him to England on the last day of the summer transfer window in 2011.
Ruiz has since made 68 appearances for the recently-relegated side and scored eight goals, moving on loan in 2014 to Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven and seemingly returning to his strong form.
Experience is held very much to the advantage of Ruiz when it comes to international level, capped 62 times for Costa Rica and holding 12 goals to his name. Ruiz competed in 11 of Costa Rica's 2014 World Cup qualifying games for this summer's finals, scoring three times including during the penultimate fixture against Panama.
