On a fine run of form for Fiorentina, Giuseppe Rossi is hoping to make the Italy squad for the 2014 World Cup. The 27-year-old is enjoying his most prolific season in Serie A and will be a popular tip for goalscorer markets at Brazil 2014 if he can carry his form through the rest of the season.
Starting his playing career at Parma's youth side, Rossi found his senior debut at Manchester United and made his Premier League debut in November 2004. Rossi scored his first goal for the club against Sunderland in a 3-1 victory at the Stadium of Light and scored two goals during a league Cup match against Burton Albion, despite only receiving 12 appearances at the English side.
Rossi moved to Newcastle United on loan for the 2006-07 season, scoring just one goal on Tyneside against Portsmouth during a League Cup tie from 13 appearances during the first half of the season. Rossi was again loaned for the second half of the season, this time to former club, Parma, where he netted nine goals in 19 league appearances to save the Italian side from relegation on that occasion.
A £6.6 million deal took Rossi to Villarreal in 2007, where he remained up until 2013 and scored 82 goals in 192 matches. The 2010–11 season was Rossi's most memorable as he scored 32 goals in 56 appearances, an injury curtailing his latter times at the club before Fiorentina took the Forward on a €10 million transfer.
Rossi broke a 23-month goal drought in Fiorentina's opening match of the 2013–14 Serie A season, and ended the first half of the season of an impressive tally of 14 goals to make him a certainty for the 2014 World Cup with Italy, where Rossi will play a Forward role preferably assisting Mario Balotelli's bid to be the squad's top scorer.
In 29 starts for Italy's national squad, Rossi has scored seven goals since playing for the senior side after playing for almost every youth level. Rossi scored four goals at the 2008 Summer Olympics, but missed out of Italy's 2010 World Cup squad selection. Rossi only contested two World Cup qualifers with no goals to his name, but scored in his most recent match for the Italy squad in a Friendly against Nigeria.
Giuseppe Rossi World Cup Betting Tips
Rossi's odds are fairly long to be the 2014 World Cup's top goal scorer which is understandable given the tough nature of Group D. But Italy have a history of defying the odds and the Fiorentina striker could be the key to a long run in Brazil. A proven match winner in the mould of Alessandro Del Piero, Rossi is one to include in goalscorer and scorecast bets in Italy’s World Cup matches.
