  • Jefferson Antonio Montero Vite is a versatile winger who will aim to help a strengthened Ecuador side progress from the group stages of the 2014 World Cup. Montero holds 40 international caps to his name for the Group E competitors, and his ability to create chances as well as occasionally take them could be rewarding not just for Ecuador, but also for betting punters thanks to his profitable individual goalscorer odds.

Montero started playing football professionally with Club Sport Emelec, but made a stern impression whilst playing at Club Social y Deportivo Independiente José Terán in the Ecuadorian second division.

Proving a consistent goalscorer instantly, he was soon loaned to Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa, but swiftly signed a five-year contract with Villarreal for the 2009/10 La Liga season. Despite being pivotal in the reserve side's overachieving campaign, first team football often deserted him and he soon moved on a brief loan spell to Levante.

A 2011 loan to Real Betis made him a regular starter throughout his one-year deal, scoring once which came against Real Madrid before the Ecuadorian was transferred to Monarcas Morelia on a three-year contract with the Liga MX club.

Montero has since scored 15 times for the club since 2012, acquiring the number 10 shirt from international team-mate Joao Rojas when the latter departed the side. Rojas will join Jefferson at the 2014 World Cup - a partnership that shone during their time together at the Liga MX club.

Montero represented Ecuador for the first time at senior international level in 2007 during a friendly against Bolivia, and has since earned 40 caps for his country with eight goals to his name.

During 15 World Cup 2014 qualification matches he appeared in, Montero netted three goals including a brace against Paraguay as the South Americans made it through to the coming finals.

Jefferson Montero World Cup betting tips

Montero is traditionally a winger, so should be seen more as a provider of goals than an ultimate top scorer for Ecuador. Individual goalscorer markets offer Montero solid betting odds to potentially profit from in a strong Ecuador side more than capable of progressing through an open Group E.

Back Montero to be top scorer for Ecuador at 6/1 with Bet365.
