Jerry Ricardo Bengtson Bodden proved a sensation in World Cup 2014 qualifying matches for Honduras, scoring nine goals in 12 appearances. That goalscoring threat will give Honduras a big boost throughout the summer tournament, and the forward will be a strong tip for punters to consider for first, last or anytime goalscorer betting markets.
Bengtson started his professional football career with C.D. Vida, making his first team debut in 2007. He scored his first goal against Real España that September, what would become the first of 36 goals from a total of 81 appearances with the club until 2010.
During the summer of 2010, Bengtson had trained with top-level Swedish club, AIK Fotboll. He was not offered a contract however, the decision stemming from the struggling situation the club were in at the time.
That November, Bengtson was brought to Motagua on a three-year contract and instantly shone as one of the Honduras league's most prolific scorers. Bengtson was the season's top scorer for a third time in succession, having netted 26 goals in 54 appearances.
In 2012, Bengtson moved to New England as a designated player and has scored four goals since for the MLS side.
Bengtson made his debut for Honduras in an April 2010 friendly against Venezuela, and has racked up a total of 44 caps and 14 goals for his national side since.
He also represented his country at the 2012 London Olympics and 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and was a major part in World Cup 2014 qualifying matches as he scored nine goals in 12 appearances.
