Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandžukić has already proved he can deliver a crucial goal in a major tournament, and will enter as one of Croatia's most dangerous players for their 2014 World Cup campaign. Mandžukić has scored 13 times for Croatia already since 2007, and comes with good odds to profit from in individual goalscorer markets and for Croatia's top scorer of the tournament.
Mandžukić began his career at German club TSF Ditzingen in 1992, moving to Marsonia in 1996 for a youth spell that soon lead to his professional debut in 2004.
In the summer of 2005 he moved to NK Zagreb and scored 14 times in 51 showings under the tuition of Miroslav Blažević. The interest he gained soon took him to Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb for €1.3 million, Mandžukić replacing striker Eduardo and scoring 63 goals in his three-year spell until 2010.
Three league titles and a pair of Croatian Cups were won while Mandžukić was at the club, before he was signed by VfL Wolfsburg for 60 appearances - scoring 20 goals in that two-year period.
Mandžukić signed a contract with Bundesliga club Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of €13 million in 2012, scoring on his debut and netting a total of 15 goals in just 24 Bundesliga starts during that first season.
He famously scored the first goal in a 2-1 UEFA Champions League final win that season, proving a significant part of a formidable Bayern side that claimed the Bundesliga title in both seasons Mandžukić has played for them.
Mandžukić has earned 49 senior international caps for Croatia, making his debut back in 2007 against Macedonia. He has since scored 13 goals at international level, and will make his World Cup debut this summer. Mandžukić scored four goals in qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup, appearing in 12 of those games.
Mario Mandžukić World Cup betting tips
The striker will be Croatia's best betting tip to pay out in individual goalscorer markets, but top scorer of the overall tournament will be a long shot considering Croatia's tough Group A opposition that includes Brazil. Mandžukić is favourite however to be Croatia's top scorer of the tournament with the bookmakers, and carries good odds that would turn over a profit if he proved them right.
