  • Colombia’s 2014 World Cup squad will see no shortage of striking talent, with Teofilo Gutierrez a great candidate in individual goalscorer markets during the early stages in Brazil. Consistently in the hunt for goals after already scoring 11 goals for his country on International level before the start of the year, Gutierrez represents a threat not just for goals, but to provide team-mates with the assists they need.

The Colmbian striker began his career with Barranquilla F.C. in 2006, before being called up to Atletico Junior’s senior team after scoring 16 goals in 28 appearances.

Finding his feet at the club, Gutierreaz subsequently notched up a total of 45 goals in 83 appearances for the Colombian side between 2007-09. Gutierrez has since played for Trabzonspor in 2010/11, before going on to score 22 goals from 42 appearances at Racing Club during 2011/12.

Gutierrez was sold to Mexican side Cruz Azul for $3 million, helping the squad in the absence of major strikers at the time before their relationship dampened as Gutierrez wanted to leave for Argentinian side River Plate, a move he received in 2013 and sees him still playing for the club in 2014.

Making his World Cup debut in 2014, Gutierrez has made a total of 27 International appearances for Colombia, and kept up a respectable goal scoring record of 11 goals during that period since 2009 including scoring on his debut during a 2-1 win against El Salvador. Gutierrez made his World Cup qualifying debut against Ecuador, and subsequently scored the latter in a 2-0 victory during his first of 14 qualifying matches in which he bagged six goals.

He continued to score and assist team-mates during Colombia’s 2014 World Cup qualification efforts, netting four of those six goals from four separate games as his national squad made the cut for the trip to Brazil in the coming summer.

Teofilo Gutierrez World Cup Betting Tips

Gutierrez looks capable of carrying the mantle for Colombia if star performer Falcao fails to recover in time for Brazil 2014.

With Falcao expected to be the favoured player among the bookmakers, Gutierrez’s betting odds will make him good value for individual goalscorer betting throughout Colombia’s World Cup matches to score first, last or anytime.
