  • Former international footballer turned TV pundit Matt Le Tissier has betting tips for the Portugal v Ghana World Cup Group G clash in Brasilia on June 26th, live from 5.00pm on BBC.

Portugal's 2014 World Cup has been nothing short of disastrous. They were played off the park by Germany in the opening match before Pepe was sent off and they lost both Fabio Coentrao and Hugo Almeida to injury during the 4-0 thrashing. Their injury crisis was then worsened when Helder Postiga suffered a hamstring injury early on against the USA meaning Eder is the only fit striker in their squad and he hasn't exactly grasped his opportunity to shine in Brazil. At least Paulo Bento's side have given themselves a slim chance to make the last 16 after Silvestre Varela's dramatic late equaliser against USA kept them in to competition, for now at least.

Ghana looked to have done enough to earn a point when Andre Ayew equalised late on against USA in their opening match, but they had used to much energy to force the game level and the Stars and Stripes were able to steal a 2-1 win. The Black Stars then proved they aren't in Brazil just to make the numbers up when they came from behind to take the lead against Germany only to be pegged back to 2-2 after a determined team effort.

The battling qualities that Ghana have shown coupled with Portugal's below par performances have led Matt to tip the African side in this match. The brave punter can back Ghana at odds of 9/4 with Winner, while others may prefer the Double Chance at 5/7 with 888Sport. Those who disagree with Matt and fancy the Navigators to win won't do better than joining Betfred for enhanced odds 4/1 Portugal to beat Ghana.

In light of Eder's recent performances, Paulo Bento could move Cristiano Ronaldo into a centre-forward role, allowing last-minute saviour Silvestre Varela to start out wide. William Carvalho did well after coming off the bench against USA and could have earned a starting berth ahead of either Raul Meireles or Miguel Veloso with the latter possibly filling in at left back if Andre Almeida fails to recover from a hip injury.

Sulley Ali Muntari picked up a second tournament booking against Germany and will therefore miss the final group game through suspension with Emmanuel Badu or Michael Essien set to deputise. Jordan Ayew may well come back into the starting XI at the expense of the ineffectual Kevin-Prince Boateng, while last time out goal-scorers Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew retain their starting roles in attack and on the left-flank respectively.
