Top 5 Premier League Stars at Euro 2020

By Jamie Smith

Premier League stars will only be granted a short rest before they link up with their countries and try to lead them to the Euro 2020 final at Wembley on July 11.

Here are five of the Premier League’s biggest names who should shine brightly at Euro 2020.

1.  Kevin De Bruyne – Belgium

Belgium go into Euro 2020 as the top team in the world according to FIFA’s rankings, with De Bruyne going into the tournament on the back of another brilliant season with Manchester City.

At 29, the playmaker should be right at his peak and he has a lethal striker to feed in the form of Romelu Lukaku, whose goals fired Inter to the Serie A title.

De Bruyne’s set piece abilities should also come to the fore with Belgium boss Roberto Martinez expected to be highly reliant on his leading man this summer.

BetVictor make De Bruyne a 14/1 shot to be named the player of the tournament.

2.  Bruno Fernandes – Portugal

It is still Cristiano Ronaldo who tops the billing for defending Euros champions Portugal, but his successor as their star man looks certain to be Fernandes.

Fernandes dominates games for Manchester United and will be expected to do the same for Portugal, who are not particularly fancied, despite also being Nations League champions. Paddy Power have Fernandes at 20/1 to be the best player of Euro 2020.

3.  Paul Pogba – France

Fernandes’ United team-mate Pogba will no doubt be happy to be back in France colours – he is 33/1 with Bet365 to be the player of the tournament winner.

Having unsuccessfully pushed for a move away from Old Trafford, this could be Pogba’s chance to show elite clubs across Europe he is worth the big fee it would take to do a deal.

France coach Didier Deschamps is said to be considering using Pogba on the left of midfield, but wherever he features he is sure to be a key performer for Les Bleus at Euro 2020 this summer.

4.  Timo Werner – Germany

Playing for his country at Euro 2020 could be just what Werner needs to alleviate his funk. Unibet offer 25/1 for Werner to win the Golden Boot.

It was a difficult first season in the Premier League for the €53 million Chelsea signing, who has had countless goals ruled out by VAR reviews due to his complete inability to stay onside.

Werner’s pace in behind defences will be an asset for Germany, though, with the former RB Leipzig and Stuttgart star having so far netted 15 goals in 38 international appearances.

5.  Gareth Bale – Wales

Bale was one of the stars of the show at Euro 2016 as Wales upset the odds to reach the last four.

Where the 31-year-old will be playing next season remains unresolved – there is even some speculation he could announce his retirement – but with Zinedine Zidane reportedly on his way out of Madrid, perhaps Bale could yet be welcomed back at the Bernabeu.

Impressing with Wales at Euro 2020 would be a good way to remind Madrid of his huge talent. Bale is an outside shot in the Euro 2020 Golden Boot odds, with Unibet offering 60/1.
