Chelsea v Man United Betting Tips
Super Sunday’s final contest takes us to Stamford Bridge, where Manchester United are the visitors, bidding to win their first competitive game at Chelsea since 2012.
Champions Chelsea have started miserably this campaign, failing to compete with United and Man City in the early stages with disappointing losses to Burnley and Crystal Palace, along with a home loss against City themselves.
A number of key injuries haven’t helped the Blues cause, with Eden Hazard absent at the start of the season, Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante both injured in recent weeks and multiple defensive issues.
That same excuse could be used for the Red Devils in reality though, with club record signing Paul Pogba out for a prolonged period. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been sidelined since early 2017, while club captain Michael Carrick has also missed a big period of this season.
The good news for Jose Mourinho’s side is that Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Marouane Fellaini are set to return, with Ivorian centre back Bailly likely to start this weekend. United fans are the first to admit that they look more comfortable when Bailly plays, so his return will be warmly received.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will have N’Golo Kante in contention once more, although Victor Moses is ruled out with a hamstring strain.
The Blues were victorious twice in the three meetings between these sides last season, with United grabbing the three points at Old Trafford. Since then, fortunes for both sides seem to have swapped completely.
While Chelsea were defensively sound last term, Antonio Conte’s outfit have been leaking goals left, right and centre this season, already conceding six league goals at Stamford Bridge in five games.
On another day, Watford could have piled on Chelsea’s agony with a win in the Blues last home outing. Alas, Richarlison missed several chances to wrap the game up and Conte’s men turned a 2-1 deficit into a roaring 4-2 win.
Against one of the most tactically astute sides in England, this weekend could be a different story though. United leaked four goals in last season’s league match in London – it’d be an enormous surprise to see that again here.
United have been the second best side in the league statistically as well as on paper, scoring goals for fun while keeping the tightest backline in the division. While their worst form has come on the road, their away record is still better than Chelsea’s home record entering this one.
We fancy United to get something from this one, honestly. Jose Mourinho sets up to avoid defeat on the road, but Chelsea’s defensive woes could make them vulnerable. United are available in the Double Chance market at 8/13 with Betfair – that’s probably Sunday’s best bet.
Three of United’s away matches against the top five saw under 2.5 goals last season, while their trip to Liverpool saw a stalemate already this season. With Mourinho’s gameplan in mind, the wise bet is to back Under 2.5 goals at 8/11 with most bookmakers.
Romelu Lukaku returns to the club his former employer and the team he rejected in the summer – wouldn’t it be apt if he nicked the winner? Back the lethal Belgian striker to score anytime at 13/10 with BetVictor.
