India vs England Betting Guide: Free Bets, Odds & Best Bets

Fresh off a 2-0 Test series win over Sri Lanka, England are ready for arguably the most daunting challenge in Test cricket – an away tour in India.

Joe Root was very happy with the quality of his team’s performance in Galle but if they needed any reminder of just how brilliant India are they only had to look at their recent 2-1 series win in Australia.

Both teams welcome back some key players who were rested for those most recent series so this should be an engrossing watch.

The bookies, however, only see it going one way with India the 1/2 favourites with bet365 to win the series

Virat Kohli is one of those world class players returning to the fold for India for this series.

The Indian captain missed much of the series Down Under due to paternity leave and he can make a typically dominant return to the Test fold by being the host’s top run scorer.

You can back Kohli to top score for India at 2/1 with 888sport, a bet which qualifies for the Bet £10 Get £40 free bet offer.

How is the 2021 India vs England Test Series Structured?

This is not a typical tour with only two stadiums in use but the great news is that up to 25,000 fans will be allowed in from the 2nd Test. Here’s the full schedule:

February, 5-9 – 1st Test, Chennai (04:00 GMT)

February, 13-17 – 2nd Test, Chennai (04:00 GMT)

February, 24-28 – 3rd Test, Ahmedabad (09:00 GMT)

March, 4-8 – 3rd Test, Ahmedabad (04:00 GMT)

The 3rd Test at Ahmedabad has been pinpointed by many judges as England’s best chance of victory as it is a day/night Test and the ball should swing more under the lights and as the evening dew starts to fall on the pitch.

Players to Watch: India vs England

This is a unique time for cricket and the ECB have come in for some criticism for their rotation policy.

Jonny Bairstow, one of England’s best players of spin, will not be present for the first two Tests in India while Mark Wood and Sam Curran are also being rest after playing in Sri Lanka.

On the plus side, the exciting duo of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are back in the squad. Those two will hope for some help from the pitches with their pace bowling but it’s the England spinners who could be vital.

Moeen Ali feels as though he has unfinished business in the Test arena and he could be given a chance at the expense of one of Dom Bess and Jack Leach.

India have some of the world’s best spin bowlers to call on. Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav could play in the opener but it’s not all about spin for the hosts.

Jasprit Bumrah is a frightening prospect in full flight and we have a feeling he is in for a very good series.

England’s Top Batsmen:

Joe Root:
The England captain excelled in Sri Lanka but he knows as well as any cricket fan that the Indian bowlers in home conditions will pose a much tougher examination of his technique and mental fortitude.

Ben Stokes:
England’s star man so often, Stokes returns to cricket following the passing of his father in New Zealand. Stokes is no stranger to playing in India thanks to his regular participation in the IPL. He will have a huge role to play once again.

England’s Top Bowlers:

James Anderson:
England’s record wicket-taker is still going strong at the age of 38. His desire to keep improving and working on his game is incredible and although he is unlikely to play every Test he will be a menace to the Indian bowlers whenever he’s in the team.

Jofra Archer:
Jofra Archer is another England player who regularly competes in the IPL. Indeed, it’s his participation in the 2021 edition which meant he was rested for the Sri Lanka tour. A fit and fresh Archer is a big danger when he steams in at full pelt and he can also add runs at the tail end of England’s batting line-up.

India Top Batsmen:

Virat Kohli:
Fatherhood changes people but Indian cricket fans will hope that any change in their captain is positive. The 32-year-old is right at the peak of his powers and his wicket will be one of the most valued prizes for the England bowlers.

Cheteshwar Pujara:
The bookies make Pujara second favourite to Kohli in the betting to be India’s top runscorer in the series with bet365 pricing him at 7/2. The 33-year-old has an impressive Test average of 47.74 and he played some very valuable innings in the recent tour of Australia.

India Top Bowlers:

Ravichandran Ashwin:
Every touring batsman fears the go-to Indian spinner when they tour the country and at the moment that is Ravichandran Ashwin. He found the conditions in Australia taxing at times but will be much more lethal on home soil.

Jasprit Bumrah:
Bumrah looks a good value bet to be India’s top bowler at 9/2 with bet365. His unique action makes it very tough for batsmen to pick exactly what he’s about to do.
