England v Slovenia Betting Tips
Group F leaders England can confirm their place at Russia 2018 with a win over third placed Slovenia on Thursday night.
Gareth Southgate’s side have remained unbeaten throughout their eight qualifying matches, including a 0-0 draw against Slovenia last time these two sides met. That game was just Southgate’s second match in control of the Three Lions and was one of only two games where England have failed to win in competitive matches under him.
Slovenia come into this match with just four points from a possible 12 on the road – those matches include contests against Malta and Lithuania. Srečko Katanec’s side have the second best home record in the group and could so easily have second place, at a minimum, wrapped up had results in Scotland and Lithuania improved.
England were victorious in a tense contest against Slovakia in their last qualifying match, taking the three points in a tight 2-1 win. Bookmakers are now all but certain that England have earned their place in Russia already.
England’s top quality in the squad can’t be doubted. Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling should provide a real impetus going forward, while the defensive aspect of their line-up features top stars like Eric Dier, Gary Cahill and Kyle Walker. The home side will, however, be without Dele Alli who misses out through a one-match suspension for a gesture made against Slovakia.
The Three Lions home record is also not to be disputed – four wins from four in this qualifying campaign back that up perfectly. England should win this game at odds of 4/11 with William Hill.
Our second bet is for England to win this match to nil. When England break through, they have multiple players who can find the back of the net, so there’s a distinct possibility that they add a second and put the game to bed.
England have averaged two goals per game in qualifying so far, while they have only conceded one goal in four matches at Wembley so far. With enough quality to win the game going forward against a side who have failed to score in Scotland and Slovakia, this bet is terrific value at 1/1 with Ladbrokes.
Finally, we are opting to back in-form Harry Kane to continue his hot goalscoring streak. Kane’s August woes were widely mocked by millions of football fans around the globe but the Spurs striker was the only one laughing in September as he scored 13 goals in all competitions.
As October begins, we firmly expect the England striker to continue finding the net, starting with Thursday night. Back Kane to score first at 9/4 with Ladbrokes.
