The 41st edition of the Ryder Cup is set to take place in Chaska, Minnesota between September 30th and October 2nd 2016 on the Robert Trent Jones designed Hazeltine National Golf Club course, which measures 7,678 yards.
Europe are the defending team after making it three consecutive victories when beating the USA by 16½ points to 11½ in the 2014 competition at Gleneagles. The Europeans have dominated recent renewals of the biennial competition, winning 8 of the last 10 Ryder Cups and can clinch four in a row for the first time ever, if they are successful in 2016.
Following the European victory in the 2014 Ryder Cup, the PGA of America created a 'Ryder Cup Task Force' to root out the underlying causes of USA's recent underachievement in the competition, something that was compounded to great effect with the 'Miracle of Medinah' back in 2012. Europe were down 10-4 after 14 matches, with 2 four-ball matches still on the course and 12 singles matches to be played the next day. But despite being down 10-6 going into the final day Europe managed to beat the odds and win by 14½ points to 13½.
