Rob Page’s Wales have a tough group on their hands and with Italy and Turkey to come, a positive result is vital if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the last-16.
That’s easier said than done, however, with Switzerland no strangers to major tournaments and boasting a squad packed with players plying their trade in high-level domestic leagues.
Today’s Bet Builder weighs in at a rather juicy 11/1 with Paddy Power:
- Under 2.5 Goals
- Granit Xhaka to be Booked
- Over 4.5 Switzerland Corners
- 1+ Gareth Bale Shots on Target
Wales vs Switzerland Bet Builder Betting Tip:
Under 2.5 Goals
Wales certainly don’t set the world alight as far as goals are concerned and in their last dozen games, they’ve only managed to find the net more than once in one of them.
Switzerland are much more prolific but against the Welsh the goals tend to dry up, with this leg being a winner in four of the last five meetings.
Granit Xhaka to be Booked
The soon-to-be Roma midfielder was no stranger to the referee’s notebook over the course of the Premier League season with Arsenal.
The 28-year-old picked up nine bookings in all competitions for the Gunners last season, as well as a couple for the Swiss against Germany and Finland.
Over 4.5 Switzerland Corners
We’re expecting the “away” side to start on the front foot and they dominate Wales in the corner department.
In their last five matches, Vladimir Petković’s side have taken 41 corners at an average of more than eight per game, so over 4.5 is very much a realistic prospect here.
1+ Gareth Bale Shot on Target
If Wales are to make a mark on this tournament then the Real Madrid man needs to be on top form and the 31-year-old has shown glimmers of what he can do towards the end of his loan spell at Tottenham.
The winger found the net six times in the final six games of the Premier League season, and with him being the chief set-piece taker in this Welsh squad, expect the shots to be flying in.
