Croatia Odds and Betting Tips

Another game, another penalty shootout and another victory for Croatia. This time, a big scalp, knocking out the tournament favourites Brazil.

It doesn’t get any easier, if Croatia want to make the final, as they did in 2018, then they have to overcome Argentina in the semi finals.

Although the likes of Perisic and Modric have been defying expectations, there is a fresh wave of young players that have come to the fore, and while they won’t concede too many goals, they may not score too many either.

Croatia is blessed with technically excellent players that combine finesse with brawn. Luka Modric, however, is the most irrepressible player and he is still producing performances that are almost scarcely believable. The Real Madrid icon – who suffered group eliminations in his first two World Cups with Croatia – played a starring role in his country’s route to the Final four years ago.

Modric was awarded the Golden Ball in Russia after being named the World Cup’s Best Player, and he will be a driving force once again. The midfielder has superb vision, and he can draw defenders out of position with his excellent passing ability. This could well be his last World Cup Finals appearance at the age of 36, but he would like to bow out in style.

Meanwhile, Mateo Kovacic is a great screen for the defence, and judging by his displays for Chelsea last season, he is tidy in possession. Against Belgium, for example, Kovacic will need to put out some fires and keep Kevin De Bruyne quiet.

Oh, and let’s not overlook Ivan Perisic, as he was another survivor of the 2018 World Cup set-up. Having recently signed for Tottenham, Perisic is very versatile, and he boasts a great engine, which is illustrated by the fact that he covered 72.5km at the last World Cup. He could also pop up with a few timely goals.
