France to win Group D - 2/5

The French are strong favourites to win this group

World Cup 2022

There is no doubt that the World Cup draw has been rather kind to France and with the holders being placed in Group D, Didier Deschamps’ men are unlikely to break a sweat before making safe passage to the Round of 16.

Because even though June’s Nations League fixtures were largely something to forget, this is a squad that is always full of world-class talent and has a habit of delivering on the global stage when it truly matters.

World Cup 2022

Although Denmark will be considered dark horses in Qatar, they always have the ability to upset the applecart and after reaching the semi-finals of last summer’s European Championships, they are a nation that many will want to avoid.

Especially now that Christian Eriksen’s football fairy tale has recently written a new chapter and with the Dane now back at peak physical condition, he will be ready to pull the midfield strings once again.

Australia 16/1

Australia to win Group D - 16/1

A big price for the Aussies to win the group

World Cup 2022

Although Australia were one of the last nations to earn a World Cup invite, they will be welcome to the party all the same and although their golden generation of 2006 has long since moved on, a new wave of antipodean talent is starting to come to the fore.

Admittedly advancing to the Round of 16 is going to be a herculean task and although it looks rather unlikely before the first ball of the tournament is kicked, this Australian side will give absolutely everything in their attempt to do so.

Tunisia 16/1

Tunisia to win Group D - 16/1

A big price for the group, and a huge price to win outright

World Cup 2022

In every group there has to be a rank outsider and as far as Group D is concerned, that mantle has been handed to Tunisia. With the African nation considered one of the tournament’s longest shots, there is a sense that they will be simply making up the numbers.

However, national pride will certainly be at stake and if Jalel Kadri’s men can earn at least a point against their Australian counterparts, then it will give their passionate supporters something to celebrate.

Group D World Cup 2022 Team Profiles

France

They say that although it is difficult to win the World Cup, it is even tougher to keep hold of it. Something that manager Didier Deschamps will have to be aware of, as he prepares to lead his cabal of French superstars into World Cup battle.

With the holders stuttering on the international stage in recent times, some are suggesting that form is departing them at just the wrong time. Then again, the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema will be on hand to make sure that their form returns at just the right time in Qatar.

Denmark

Although France will be breathing easy after the World Cup draw, they will have to be careful when they face the Danes and with the Scandinavian’s getting the better of the current World Cup holders in June, it offers an interesting subplot when they square off in Group D.

Because even though it was in the Nations League, it was an impressive performance showing from Kasper Hjulmand’s men and if they can match that level in Qatar, they could surprise both pundits and punters alike.

Australia

There is no doubt that Australia are going to be up against it in Qatar. Then again, they would not know any different when it comes to the international stage and although they may lack finesse and flair, they make up for it when it comes to physicality and desire.

Desire that saw them qualify for the World Cup four years ago and with both France and Denmark being familiar bedfellows from the 2018 group stage, Graham Arnold’s men will hope for better fortunes this time around.

Tunisia

After edging out Mali in one of five African confederation play-offs, Tunisia subsequently booked a sixth appearance at the World Cup and after suffering group stage exit in each of their previous five attempts, there is little to suggest that 2022 will offer anything different.

Especially as there are only currently three nations with lower outright odds than Tunisia and with them being largely unfancied by the bookmakers, they may have to make do with sitting bottom of Group D.

World Cup 2022

As mentioned previously, Denmark have already had France’s number in 2022 and although the Nations League carries nowhere near the same weight as the World Cup, their results should not be overlooked either.

Which means if the same issues that plagued France during the early summer are also hampering them this winter, Denmark will be in a perfect position to Group D and that their current price, this is certainly worth your consideration.
