Group D World Cup 2022 Team Profiles
France
They say that although it is difficult to win the World Cup, it is even tougher to keep hold of it. Something that manager Didier Deschamps will have to be aware of, as he prepares to lead his cabal of French superstars into World Cup battle.
With the holders stuttering on the international stage in recent times, some are suggesting that form is departing them at just the wrong time. Then again, the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema will be on hand to make sure that their form returns at just the right time in Qatar.
Denmark
Although France will be breathing easy after the World Cup draw, they will have to be careful when they face the Danes and with the Scandinavian’s getting the better of the current World Cup holders in June, it offers an interesting subplot when they square off in Group D.
Because even though it was in the Nations League, it was an impressive performance showing from Kasper Hjulmand’s men and if they can match that level in Qatar, they could surprise both pundits and punters alike.
Australia
There is no doubt that Australia are going to be up against it in Qatar. Then again, they would not know any different when it comes to the international stage and although they may lack finesse and flair, they make up for it when it comes to physicality and desire.
Desire that saw them qualify for the World Cup four years ago and with both France and Denmark being familiar bedfellows from the 2018 group stage, Graham Arnold’s men will hope for better fortunes this time around.
Tunisia
After edging out Mali in one of five African confederation play-offs, Tunisia subsequently booked a sixth appearance at the World Cup and after suffering group stage exit in each of their previous five attempts, there is little to suggest that 2022 will offer anything different.
Especially as there are only currently three nations with lower outright odds than Tunisia and with them being largely unfancied by the bookmakers, they may have to make do with sitting bottom of Group D.
