A couple from Shrewsbury due to be wed next month have extra cause to celebrate on their big day thanks to a £1 Million Lottery win.
61-year-old Care worker Jackie Murphy and her 54-year-old fiancé John Potter were down to their last £20 when she decided to purchase a scratchcard.
“I decided to buy a scratchcard on Saturday afternoon from News Express in Shawbury. I got back in to the car, scratched it and just sat there in disbelief before dashing back in to the store to get it checked."
But she was in for an anxious wait while a shop assistant looked through a bin for the missing corner of the winning ticket as the barcode on the back of the card was torn, making it difficult to verify the win until it had been found.
There are no such dramas with Big Fat Lottos where you get55 EuroMillions entries for £1 plus £10 welcome bonus to play instant win games with no need to worry about losing or damaging your ticket as any online purchases are recorded in your user account.
Thankfully the win was confirmed and the couple, who have been together for 10 years can now afford to book the honeymoon that they have always dreamed of.
Despite the windfall, they have decided not to alter the wedding plans and will still tie the knot at a registry office with the reception held at a nearby hotel. However, their friends and family will no longer have to buy their own drinks as Jackie and John are putting a free bar on for all of their guests.
