Tuesday sees one of the most unique race meetings on the calendar, with the annual Laytown Races taking place on the beach in County Meath in Ireland.
Held on a straight course and confined to 6f and 7f contests, Laytown Races are the only event of their kind in Ireland and the UK and have been taking place since 1868.
It’s a thrilling meeting, and crowds of over 5,000 attend each year in the hope of backing a winner on the beach.
We’ve highlighted two horses that are previous winners on the sand at Laytown that look like solid bets to win again this time around and are perfect for a Double on Tuesday evening.
4.45pm Laytown - Dream Today
Dream Today won over 7f here last year and looks to have an excellent chance again for trainer Ado McGuinness, this time over 6f.
He’s now 6lbs lower than last year’s victory, and being the only previous Laytown winner in the field, he has a huge advantage over his rivals.
5.15pm Laytown - Samrogue
Samrogue won this race in 2022 and heads into this year’s renewal 10lbs lower in the handicap. She’s not been seen since Cork in July, which interestingly was the same preparation as she had last year.
Conor Hoban once again takes the ride, and she looks like the one they all have to beat for trainer Ross O’Sullivan.
