Willie Mullins With Another First

Trainer Willie Mullins is set to have his first-ever runner at Newton Abbot

Trainer Willie Mullins is no stranger to saddling winners in the UK, but Friday sees the Closutton maestro have his first-ever runner at Newton Abbot.

Alvaniy is the horse journeying across to the Devon track after an excellent performance at Galway earlier this month over two miles.

Despite not being fluent at every hurdle, he coasted home under jockey Brian Hayes.

Being a flat-bred horse, it’s no shock that his jumping hasn’t been perfect, but with that victory under his belt, there’s bound to be more improvement to come.

And the form of his Galway win potentially sees Alvaniy a class above this field, and even under a penalty, the five-year-old is very much the one to beat in this lineup and has priced accordingly.

One challenge Alvaniy may not overcome, though, is the weather. Due to heavy rain this week, Newton Abbot have called a precautionary 7am inspection on Friday morning with the ground currently Heavy.
