There is a familiar look to the top Money Back Bookmaker and Money Back Offer of the Month for February but dig a little deeper into the latest report from affiliate website Freebets.com and an interesting shift is developing in offer led promotions from leading online bookmakers.
First things first, bet365 has taken top spot for both Money Back Bookmaker of the Month and Money Back Offer of the Month in February and is ranked number 1 in both categories for the fourth consecutive month. Its long-standing selection of free bet offers on horse racing (Feature Race 4/1, Channel 4/1), greyhound racing (Sky Dogs 2/1) and football (Bore Draw) sit alongside a number of bonuses to give customers excellent bang-for-buck on a daily basis.
As Paddy Power continued to favour bonuses over money back specials, it appeared bet365 would be left with little competition however Betfair is emerging as the main rival for number one money back bookmaker. In finishing runner up for the second time this year, Betfair Sportsbook came very close to being the top rated in February by virtue of providing 11 unique money back offers and 130 total offers in February.
Total Bookmaker Offers held up well on the back of a record-breaking total in January and would have set another new record but for February being three days shorter. The number of Unique Offers was also impressive, the fourth highest in the past 12 months and an increase on the previous month.

February 2015 Bookmaker Of The Month
There’s little to add to what has been said on the nine previous occasions bet365 has been rated Money Back Bookmaker of the Month. Its selection of qualifying offers has remained unchanged since Freebets.com took to monitoring the various money back offers promoted on the affiliate’s website and despite increased competition, evidenced by the rising trends of recent months, bet365 continues to be top dog.
Paddy Power, long recognised as the innovator and leader of money back specials, was always the main rival for top spot and remains the most winning Bookmaker of the Month, 11 v 10 to bet365. However, results over the past few months have seen the Irish bookmaker slip out of top 3 and in February was ranked number 7, its lowest position to date. This has been brought about by a shift to offering more bonuses, customers browsing Paddy Power’s Money Back Specials page will find a long selection of offers, it just happens that most are bonuses or extra places on racing and golf events with fewer traditional money back specials which we are used to finding.
Betfair is the emerging force in the money back arena and punters should watch closely for a great variety of free bets being refunds on all manner of sports and high profile events – even TV Specials. Of the eleven different money back offers available during February, football Cashback Extra, money back on Premier League darts if the final check out is 100+ and money back on Six Nations rugby matches if the first try is not converted contributed most to their February ranking.
Other notable performances in February came from Betfred, narrowly missing out on third position to William Hill while 888sport, Betway and Coral are now competing closely with former trailblazer Paddy Power.
Money Back Offer Of The Month
No doubt keeping their powder dry for Cheltenham in March, there were no headline grabbing money back offers last month leaving bet365’s Sky Dogs 2/1 offer to take its fourth successive Money Back Offer of the Month. The promotion is available on every live televised greyhound race and has been a regular in the top 10 rankings since monitoring began.
Coral made a rare appearance in the top 10, taking second and third places with free bets for every time a goal was scored in the Champions League tie between Paris St Germain and Chelsea and a similar offer on Manchester City v Barcelona. Football enthusiasts will know nil-nil draws are rare in the Champions League and when it comes to the knockout stages it was a near certainty that Coral would be handing out free bets on these offers. The low value of the free bets, £2 per goal, stopped the offers being runaway winners of Money Back Offer of the Month.
Despite the shift towards bonus offers, Paddy Power registered six of the top 10 places in the Money Back Offers table.
Setting aside the advantage gained by higher maximum refund values, Paddy Power and bet365 are mostly prepared to give out free bets of £50 and upwards while many competitors restrict the maximum value to £25 or less, ranking offers on the chance of the refund trigger occurring tells a slightly different story.
Coral ranked first and second for the aforementioned Champions League offers but the variety of bookmaker names demonstrates that there are plenty of great value offers to found and justifies the mantra at Freebets.com that punters should be joining up with many bookmakers to pick and choose the best value available, whether it be free bet sign up offers, money back or best odds.
The trend for Total Bookmaker offers has been steadily increasing since July 2014 and February was another strong month for money back offers in general. The total of 1087 is the second highest recorded and considering this was achieved in a 28 day month against 31 days in January which had just 15 more, it could be argued February 2015 was the best month yet for money back offers.
The pie chart shows which betting sites promoted most money back offers in February. 888sport lead the way with 144, closely followed by Betway (139) and Betfair (130). Consider that in July 2014 Paddy Power provided most Total offers with 83 and in February, eight of the 19 betting sites monitored by Freebets.com provided in excess of that number, demonstrates how important money back promotions have become in the race for customer retention.
The number of Unique money back offers continues to fluctuate and has been shown not to have too much impact on Total Bookmaker Offers which is a count of the various offers available every day. There were 98 Unique offers in February, and increase of 7 on the previous month and just 5 less than the highest figure in the past 12 months.
Betfair and Betway both provided 11 different money back offers in February and Paddy Power gave us one less with 10.
