Betfair Continues Dominance Of Money Back Bookmakers In June

Published: 15:09 30/06/2015 analysis reveals Betfair continued to be the number one bookmaker for money back offers, taking the monthly award for the fourth consecutive occasion while bet365 provided the Money Back Offer of the Month for June 2015.

Betfair Sportsbook has maintained its position as the best website for money back offers ever since taking its first Bookmaker of the Month award in March 2015, ranking top of the table ahead of bet365 and William Hill in June.

Bet365’s Sky Dogs 2/1 offer was the top rated money back offer last month based on the maximum potential free bet award and the chance of qualifying for the free bet. BoyleSports provided punters with the best chance of receiving a free bet refund, on the odds at least, with its money back special ‘if Ireland score against England’ in the International friendly in Dublin.

There is no major international football tournament this summer, which is the main reason for the reduction in the Total number of money back offers available in June and also in the number of Unique offers. Overall, Total money back offers fell by 18.8% to 1022 from 1259 in May while the number of Unique offers fell 16.1% from 118 in May to 99 in June.

June 2015 Bookmaker Of The Month

Betfair ranked Bookmaker of the Month in June without the help of a headline, high value offer. The report shows Betfair had no offer in the Top 10 money back offers in June and one, 2/1 Greyhound Special, ranked in the top 10 offers rated by chance - its success was due the variety and amount of offers that its players could avail of every day of the month.

Typically, a Betfair customer could log into his/her account and would be given the choice of between 5 and 7 different money back offers on any given day.  There was variety enough for any sports fan with offers on baseball, cricket, football, greyhound racing, horse racing, motor racing, tennis as well as Gaelic football and hurling.

During the course of June, Betfair provided 13 different money back offers for a total of 154 when aggregated on daily availability.

The first three positions have remained unchanged for three months with bet365 ranked second ahead of William Hill in third. Stan James rose to fourth in May but fell out of the top 10 as 888sport moved up to fourth with Betway fifth.

Money Back Offer Of The Month

Money Back Offer of the Month in June went to bet365 which has earned the award six times in the last eight months for the same offer – Sky Dogs 2/1. It gives customers a free bet to the same value as the stake for backing the winner of a live Sky televised greyhound race with odds of 2/1 or bigger. The same offer could be found on Betfair and Coral but the maximum free bet was higher at bet365 who will refund up to £100 compared to £25 maximum with their competitors.

BoyleSports ranked second for its money back special ‘if Ireland score against England’. Despite a relatively high chance of the money back trigger occurring (it was top rated on chance), BoyleSports were spared making refunds on the game after it turned out a nil-nil bore fest.  The same can’t be said for two of Sky Bet’s Royal Ascot offers which gave a free bet refund to anyone backing a loser in the Queen Anne Stakes and also for those who failed to back the winner of the Jersey Stakes.

General Findings

Total Bookmaker offers fell to its lowest number since October 2014 and is indicative of the emphasis on football. There has been a steady climb in Total Bookmaker offers since the start of the season in August but we have witnessed a the peak in April and as the number of games reduced toward the ends of the season, so have the amount of offers. However a year-on-year comparison shows that punters are still getting a good deal with 1022 offers available in June 2015 and 51.4% increase on the 675 in June 2014.

Total money back offers by bookmaker featured on in June 2015

There were 99 Unique money back offers available on in June, the lowest since February. The fact that there has only ever been 100 Unique offers or more on four occasions demonstrates that bookmakers have been making efforts to look beyond football and racing offers, although the two sports account for the vast majority of money back offers online.

The chart below shows how money back offers were shared between the various sports and while there was relatively little football played in the month, there were plenty football offers for the likes of the Champions League final and Euro 2016 qualifiers which were the highlights in June.

Putting numbers to the graphic, we have Racing 34, Football 28, Tennis 10, Greyhounds 6, Golf 5 and the rest 3 or less.
