Lord David Triesman resigned at lunchtime today as Head of England's 2018 World Cup bid as the Mail on Sunday published details of a taped conversation with a former Civil Service colleague . In a totally bizarre conversation with Melissa Jacobs a former colleague and friend from his days in Government with the Labour Party where he was a senior government Minister , Lord Triesman alleged that the Spanish and Russian Football Association's were plotting to bribe referee's in the upcoming World Cup in South Africa . For the Chairman of England's 2018 bid to actually believe this is remarkable and following an FA Board Meeting this afternoon Triesman has now also resigned his position as Chairman of the FA . All of this is hugely damaging for England's 2018 bid and those bookmakers who were taking bets on this particular market have all reacted by lengthening England's odds to host the World Cup in 2018 . Whilst the market is very thin currently on Betfair it would take a very brave and patriotic fan to wish to take the best price 6/4 on offer !
