France coach Raymond Domenech has named the 23 players who will be making up their World Cup squad. The French coach has decided not to replace Lassana Diarra who has been ruled out of this Summer's tournament following a stomach injury which he picked up on Saturday. William Gallas has also been deemed as fit to play despite concerns over his fitness.
"It's complicated to take somebody out and we've had Lassana Diarra, who's had a real problem," Domenech told the French Football Federation website.
"Then we found ourselves with 23 players so we no longer needed to make a choice because that group here keeps showing us that we can trust them.
"Those 23 players will take us all the way."
The South African World Cup will start on June the 11th, giving the French coach until June 1st to submit his final squad to Fifa. Real Madrid's Lassana Diarra will be out of action for an “indefinite period” according to the FFF.
"Medical tests have revealed an unforeseeable illness which justifies a rest period," France team spokesman Francois Manardo said on Saturday.
"As a consequence, Lassana Diarra will miss the World Cup."
Domenech said: "It's a blow when you lose a player. It's even harder because it wasn't a choice, it's destiny.
"It's tough for him because I know how much effort he had put into this World Cup. He was one of the driving forces of this team in terms of the way he played and his attitude."
Patrick Vieira will be absent from the French side as they aim to avoid a repeat of Euro 2008, where a selected Vieira never recovered from a thigh injury and consequently France were dismissed from the group stages without winning a game.
France will play Costa Rica in a warm-up match on May 26th, with William Hill giving 3/10 odds of a win for the French side.
