X-Factor Auditions Kick Off

While it only seems like yesterday that Joe McElderry won X-Factor the hunt has started for a new X-Factor star. The first round of auditions began on Wednesday in Glasgow. With Dannii Minogue away on maternity leave, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell joined regular judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole to whittle down the hopefuls and choose who will go through to bootcamp. And Dannii who is down under waiting to have her baby has given her full support to the new judges she wrote on Twitter n "Go Geri! Give em some 'spice' at the X Factor auditions in Glasgow today. Good luck to everyone who's auditioning." It's not the first time Geri has tried her hand a judging a talent show she was one of the judges on Popstars: the rivals which famously launched the career of Cheryl Cole's band Girls Aloud back in 2002. It's thought that a number of guest judges will be enlisted to help out on the show while Dannii is away before she is expected to rejoin the show for the judge's house stage in September. Her sister Kylie has even been rumoured as a possible replacement while Halliwell's former Spice Girl bandmate Mel B had teased the press she was in the frame. This year the show is even going to the Republic of Ireland for the first time to hold auditions. It follows the success of twins Jedward, aka John and Edward Grimes. X Factor auditions will take place in Dublin on June 28 - although it is unknown if Irish viewers will be able to vote for any homegrown talent on the show. The next auditions take place in Birmingham on Sunday 13th June and Monday 14th June, London from 21-24 June, Cardiff on 2 July and Manchester from 9-11 July. We have to wait until October to see the live shows begin by which time Dannii will have returned from Australia to take her place on the judging panel. Paddy Power has a number of special bets on the outcome of the show including whether the winner's debut album will be the biggest selling Album of 2010 in the UK with odds of 9/4 and that the winner will have the fastest selling debut album of all time in the UK and Ireland with odds of 12/1.
