Bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers on the Uruguay v Germany third place play off game on Saturday.
Uruguay’s four goal striker Diego Forlan told a press conference today that he was hopeful he will be fit to play Germany on Saturday night.
He was brought off with a thigh injury in 84th minute of the 3-2 semi-final defeat to Netherlands, placing a doubt over his appearance at Nelson Mandela Bay.
Forlan’s name was one of ten Golden Ball nominees announced by FIFA today before their technical committee sit to decide the Player of the Tournament.
He still has a chance of claiming the Golden Boot with best odds 20/1 with Victor Chandler. David Villa is bookmakers’ favourite, 10/11 with Betfred, for the Golden Boot having notched five goals, one ahead of Forlan.
Netherland’s Wesley Sneijder has also scored five times, his odds are 3/1 with Ladbrokes and Coral.
Germany’s four goal striker Miroslav Klose is 7/1 with Victor Chandler however his participation on Saturday is subject to a satisfactory recovery from his back problem.
Forlan told the world’s press how before the tournament started, everyone in the Uruguay squad would have been delighted to think they would be playing for third place in the 2010 World Cup finals.
The Golden Ball nominee’s face lit up when asked about the possibility of a move to the Premier League, telling his audience: “I’ve never closed the door on going back.”
