Bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers on the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday 11th July.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel impressed during first practice today and bookies reacted by shortening their odds on him to win the British Grand Prix on Sunday.
Internet bookmaker Bodog was one of the few not to change their odds after Vettel finished ahead of second fastest Lewis Hamilton and still offer 9/4 for Vettel to be race winner – his odds are as low as 6/4 in some places.
Hamilton’s price was largely unaffected and Sportingbet still offer 7/2 for the young Brit to gain his second British Grand Prix victory.
Renault’s Robert Kubica was third fastest and Vittel’s Red Bull team mate Mark Webber was fourth quickest.
The session proved difficult to read as drivers familiarised themselves with new car enhancements and the new ‘Arena’ section that has been added at the end of the Silverstone lap.
Several drivers struggled at the big bump created where the old and new sections of track meet at Abbey’s right handed kink. Hamilton found himself running wide in the Mclaren several times.
World Title contender Fernando Alonso and his Ferrari team mate Felipe Massa used the session to analyse the performance of their F-Duct aerodynamic device.
They drove with and without the device which has been designed to improve straight line speed. Alonso will expect to improve on his 13th place at practice in tomorrow’s qualifying sessions.
McLaren’s other British hopeful Jensen Button couldn’t match his team mate’s track speed and finished eighth fastest. His odds of 9/1 with Boylesports and Sporting bet look a realistic reflection on his race chances.
