Super League leaders Wigan Warriors are just 1/7 best price with Coral to win the regular season after three of their main rivals all slipped up at the weekend.
Michael McGuire’s Warriors extended continued their excellent form in 2010 with a 60-10 thrashing of 12-man Salford City Reds on Friday night, capitalising on surprise defeats for Leeds Rhinos, St Helens and Hull FC at the top of the table.
St Helens were on the receiving end of one the shocks of the season on Friday as they fell to a 30-20 defeat at home to bottom club Catalans Dragons, their second successive defeat, pushing them out as far as 100/1 with Paddy Power to finish the regular season on top.
Defending champions Leeds remain in fifth position after they fell to a 25-6 defeat at Hull KR whilst Hull FC, who face their Humberside rivals on Thursday night also succumbed to a surprise defeat at Wakefield on Saturday.
Wigan aside, Warrington Wolves, who beat Castleford 52-30 on Sunday, were the only top five side to win this weekend and although they remain four points behind the Warriors in second place, the gap between first and third is now a commanding eight points with only six games remaining. Warrington are best price 6/1 with Sportingbet to win the regular season.
The bookmakers have ranked the teams more closely in the Grand Final winners market, with the odds suggesting that we are in for the closest play-off series since the advent of the Grand Final eleven years ago.
Wigan lead the market at 7/4 but Leeds, champions for the past three seasons, St Helens and Warrington are all ranked at a general price of 10/3 to be crowned champions at Old Trafford in October
