Bookmakers are offering free bets for Liverpool in their 2010/11 campaign which has been strengthened with the recent signing of England international Joe Cole.
As Liverpool enter a new era with the management appointment of Roy Hodgson and the signing of Cole, stalwart Jamie Carragher feels the club needs to make more signings.
Having played numerous times with the former Chelsea midfielder on international duty, Carragher appreciates the boost Anfield’s new boy has given to fans and those around the club.
He said: “It is a real coup that he has chosen to come here and you have got to give the manager and the board a pat on the back for convincing him to come here.
“Every supporter that I have spoken to is absolutely delighted and all the players are the same - it's given everyone a boost, just at the right time.”
His comment follows speculation about the future of Liverpool’s key players, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres who along with Javier Mascerano have been rumoured to be leaving the club.
New boss Hodgson has done his best to quell those rumours recently and Joe Cole’s free signature brings some optimism to the club reeling from the disappointment of Rafa Benitez’s last season in charge.
Carragher understands the task ahead and he added: "It's good news again and, hopefully, there will be more to come. It's the kind of signing that we needed to make."
The Premier league title will be out of grasp this year, but Hodgson will be hopeful of winning some silverware in his first season.
Stan James are offering odds of 12/1 they can win the Europa League, while on the domestic front Blue Square are offering 66/1 that he can pull off a Carling Cup-FA Cup double.
