Online bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers on the decisive final day in the Pyrenees, stage 17 of the 2010 Tour de France. The exhausted Tour attacks Le Tourmalet from another side of the Circle of Death, the name given to the mountains protecting Col du Tourmalet, and followers can thrill at the prospect of three duels to be fought out on the last brutal climbs. The polka dot jersey for King of the Mountains will be decided between two Frenchmen, Anthony Charteau and Christophe Moreau. Charteau won 6 climbs on this year’s Tour and leads by 15 points to Moreau who must break his compatriot on the mountains and finish at least four places ahead of him to win the jersey. Stan James offer odds of 2/5 for Charteau and 5/2 for Moreau to be crowned this year’s King of the Mountains. The cat and mouse contest between Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck has become a matter of honour since Contador’s unchivalrous behaviour on Port de Bales. Schleck will want to put Contador to the sword today to avoid having the Tour decided on the upcoming time trial, where he is most disadvantaged. The stage winner will receive the Henri-Desgrange Memorial trophy and victory on today’s stage may be the only way Schleck can regain the yellow jersey. Ladbrokes offer odds of 5/2 for him to be first over the Col this afternoon. The final podium position for Paris is still being closely contested between Samuel Sanchez and Denis Menchov, Sanchez has a 13 second advantage. Like Schleck, Sanchez must take a lead into the time trial to have any hope of staying in third place. There is match betting available between the two with Ladbrokes offering 6/4 Sanchez to finish ahead of Menchov, while Paddy Power offer 8/15 for Menchov to win their private tussle today.
