The Head Of UK research for internet giant Yahoo has confirmed in an article published in the Racing Post that more than one third of online gambling accounts are opened to claim a free bet or bonus .
Patrick Hourihan was speaking after a study carried out by Yahoo confirmed that "Free Bets achieve high awareness" for operators and that "76% of people preferred to gamble on sites with a brand they trusted".
Hourihan also quoted research carried out by Mintel last year that showed high street brands such as Ladbrokes and William Hill were trusted and in the top three of online operators as the only brand used and "always first choice" .
