Online bookmakers are offering free bets on tonight’s pre-season friendly between Benfica and Tottenham Hotspurs. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is in Portugal preparing his team for a Champions League qualifier in mid August knowing he needs to bolster his squad. Redknapp wants three players to strengthen his midfield and forward line for the club’s upcoming campaigns in the Barclays Premier League and in Europe. He is reported to have made bids for West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy and AC Milan striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar. A bid of £9million for Parker is said to have been rejected by the Hammers but Harry thinks he can do more with his cash with a different recruitment policy. Shrewd Redknapp is looking to take advantage of clubs struggling with high wage bills and believes he can bring in three top quality players for the money allegedly spurned by West Ham. Speaking in the Daily Mirror he said: “I can see loans happening. I’ve got three players in mind that would not cost a lot of money. “If we can pull off the deals, you are talking about £8million or £9million for three players. Loans would certainly be a real possibility. “People are going to loan players from all over the world, there will be loads because clubs are struggling to pay the wages. There will be high earners they have to loan out.” Bellamy and Huntelaar are two players on big wages who look unlikely to be first choice for their respective clubs and could still figure in Redknapp’s plans. Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun is also reported to be of interest from Spurs. Online bookie Extrabet are offering odds of 14/5 for Spurs to beat Benfica tonight, the match kicks off at 7.45pm.
