The Bridgestone Invitational is set for a thrilling weekend with Phil Mickelson in a great position to become World Number 1 this weekend .
Mickelson needs only a top 4 finish if Tiger Woods finishes outside the top 44 this weekend and both now look llikely to happen . Woods continued his poor form with a second round 72 and will play his 3rd round in the fourth last group with JB Holmes at 7.55am local time (12.55 GMT) .
Mickelson is lying in joint second position at 6 under par alongside Justin Leonard , both players being one shot behind South African Retief Goosen . Mickelson will tee it up at 1.45pm local time (18.45 GMT) alongside Swede Peter Hanson and Bet365 make the ever popular player 8/15 to win his two ball .
"Lefty" as Mickelson is affectionately known is very aware that he has a great opportunity this weekend and commented ""Obviously it would be cool. I'm not going to say it wouldn't,I know that I'm playing well, and this is my best opportunity. (But) I try not to think about it."
Mickelson looks fairly short at 12/5 with Bet365 to win the Bridgestone this weekend as he faces some stiff competition from Paul Casey and Rory McIlroy amongst others . Casey is 4 under par and quoted at 16/1 with William Hill whilst McIlroy at 3 under par is available at 14/1 with Totesport .
