The sad news that impressive King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Harbinger has suffered a career threatening injury has caused a major reshuffle in the ante-post market.
Sir Michael Stoute's charge was as short as 4/5 for York's Juddmonte International Stakes on August 17th, the market is now headed by Sussex Stakes runner-up Rip Van Winkle at a general 11/8.
The race sponsors are represented by the next two in the betting, the French colt Byword and Coral Eclipse winner Twice Over.
The former is now a best price 5/2 with William Hill while Henry Cecil's 5 year-old can be backed at 10/3 with that firm, together with Skybet and Stan James.
As well as being responsible for the new favourite, the Aidan O'Brien stable may also saddle Irish Derby winner Cape Blanco, who is a best price 10/1 with Paddy Power.
The other race that has seen a number of price changes is Longchamp's Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe, for which Harbinger was a general 7/4 shot.
New favourite is another O'Brien inmate in the shape of Fame And Glory, a top price 10/3 with William Hill, after trading at 5/1 earlier in the day.
The Montjeu colt is set to run in tomorrow's Group 2 Royal Whip at the Curragh and anything but a decisive victory would cause more confusion in the ante-post betting.
Second favouritism is held by Grand Prix De Paris winner Behkabad at 7/1, with the unbeaten filly Sarafina as big as 12/1 with Victor Chandler, Ladbrokes and Coral
With so much uncertainty surrounding the race at this early stage the 33/1 available with Ladbrokes about old favourite Youmzain, may turn out to be decent value come the first Sunday in October.
