Unbeaten Birmingham City welcome Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool to St Andrew’s on Sunday afternoon in a game which looks like being able to go either way. After finishing 9th in last season’s Premier League table, the Blues will be looking to cement their place in the division, following a campaign of unexpected success. And boss Alex McLeish’s summer additions such as former Blackburn man James Derbyshire, could well see them cement their place in the top half yet again. Despite a 1-0 win over West Brom, Liverpool’s previous two Premier League encounters saw them struggle against sides they are expected to challenge for Champions League places come May. The Anfield outfit held on for a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at home on opening weekend, before they were comprehensively dismantled by moneybags Manchester City 3-0 at Eastlands. A Champions League finish may be out of their reach, but another 7th placed finish, the same as last season, would be a total disaster for a club who appeared to be gaining momentum on Manchester United and Chelsea just a couple of years ago. But with Fernando Torres back to full fitness and Steven Gerrard having enjoyed a fruitful week on international duty with England, Hodgson’s men will be expecting to take three points back to Merseyside. Since their return to the top-flight Birmingham’s home games have been notoriously low-scoring affairs, and a Liverpool 1-0 is available at 7/1 with bookmaker Victor Chandler The game is live on Sky Sports 1, with kick-off at 4pm.
