Baltimore Ravens spoiled the opening night celebrations at the New Meadowlands Stadium when beating the New York Jets on Monday night. Online bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers that can be redeemed on American Football games this season. 78,127 fans attended the opening to Jets’ new stadium and witnessed the Ravens shut out the home side with their quarterback Mark Sanchez restricted to just 74 yards. Nick Folk kicked two field goals in a sloppy first half to give the Jets a 6-0 lead before Baltimore responded with a second quarter touchdown when bundling Willis McGahee into the end zone from 1 yard. Midway through the third quarter, Billy Cundiff’s 25-yard field goal gave Ravens a decisive 10-6 lead and Jets only reply came with another field goal from Folk in the final quarter for a final score of 10-9. Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis was crowing after the game. “We played a heck of a game tonight. Anytime you challenge a warrior, a warrior is always going to respond” he said. Betting odds for Ravens to emulate their historic 2000 Super Bowl winning side took a tumble following the win, but online bookmaker Stan James are still offering odds of 10/1 for Ravens to win Super Bowl XLV. In the night’s AFC match at the rain soaked Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City Chiefs stunned San Diego Chargers with a 21-14 win. With honours even at 7-7 after the first quarter, Chiefs opened an unassailable lead with two second quarter touchdowns to lead 21-7 at half time. Running back Dexter McCluster fittingly won the vital points with his record breaking 94-yard punt return from Ryan Succop’s kick. Despite dominating possession, Chargers could muster only one more touchdown when reducing the lead to 21-14 in the third.
